An Evening with Photojournalist and Plan II alumnus Jeffrey McWhorter

September 29, 2022 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm CDT

An Evening with Photojournalist and Plan II alumnus Jeffrey McWhorter

Photojournalist Jeffrey McWhorter will share reflections and images from his documentary project  The Boys of Booker T.  Over the first five months of 2009 while Jeff was in the last part of his senior year in UT’s photojournalism and Plan II programs, he visited the Booker T Washington Terraces Housing project 43 times  taking photographs and recording interviews that would eventually become a multimedia project that chronicled the experiences of families whose fathers had been incarcerated, with a particular focus on young men.   Despite living in Dallas Jeff continues to photograph some of the families he first met in 2009 –especially the family of Christian Martinez who lost his life in 2010.  In April 2022 Texas Monthly published a selection of Jeff’s extraordinary portrait of this community: its memories, challenges and  changes as “The Boy from Booker T.”  He will share his photographs and reflections on making work that makes a difference with the UT community in a free public lecture at 7:30pm on  September 29th at the Joynes Reading
