Free Advance Screening of Women Talking & Filmmaker Conversation w/ Sarah Polley (Writer/Director) & Dede Gardner (Producer)

Join the Radio-Television-Film department for a special UT screening of Sarah Polley’s latest film, “Women Talking,” starring Rooney Mara, Claire Foy, Jessie Buckley, and Frances McDormand.
After the screening, RTF Professor Nancy Schiesari (Citizens at Last) will moderate a conversation with writer/director Sarah Polley (Away From Her, Alias Grace) and Academy Award-winning producer Dede Gardner (Moonlight, The Big Short), co-president of Plan B (Brad Pitt’s production company).
WOMEN TALKING (104 min)
Based on the best-selling novel by Miriam Toews.
Set in 2010, the women of an isolated religious community grapple with reconciling their reality with their faith.

- Writer/Director – Sarah Polley
Sarah Polley is a Canadian actress, writer, director, producer, and political activist. Her directorial debut, Away From Her, earned Polley an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay and also garnered an Oscar nomination for Best Actress for star Julie Christie. Her next film, Take This Waltz, world premiered at the Toronto Film Festival. Stories We Tell, her documentary which examines secrets and memory in her own family, won Best Documentary Film awards from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, National Board of Review, and the New York Film Critics Circle as well as earned Polley a Writer’s Guild of America award. Most recently, she executive produced and wrote the Netflix limited series, Alias Grace, which she adapted from Margaret Atwood’s novel. Women Talking marks her first collaboration with Brad Pitt’s production company, Plan B. - Producer – Dede Gardner
Dede Gardner, this year’s recipient of the Austin Film Festival Polly Platt Award for Producing, is an Academy Award-winning producer and co-president of Brad Pitt’s production company, Plan B. Throughout her career she has produced many Academy Award- and Golden Globe-nominated and winning films, including Lee Isaac Chung’s Minari, Barry Jenkins’ If Beale Street Could Talk and Moonlight, Adam McKay’s The Big Short and Vice, Ava DuVernay’s Selma, Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave and Terrence Malick’s Palme d’Or winner The Tree of Life. Dede’s recent features include Gaz Alazraki’s Father of the Bride and Miranda July’s Kajillionaire, as well as the forthcoming features Blonde, She Said, Women Talking, and Landscape With Invisible Hand. Her recent television releases include the HBO/Sky limited series “The Third Day,” created by Dennis Kelly, the Amazon series “The Underground Railroad,” created by Barry Jenkins and “Outer Range” created by Brian Watkins. Up next on the TV side is the forthcoming Amazon series “Paper Girls” and “High School” for FreeVee.
