Speaker Biography

An award-winning broadcast veteran with more than 30 years of experience, Mark Hoffman was named Chairman of CNBC in April 2015.  He is also a member of the NBCUniversal Executive Committee.

Hoffman became CNBC President in 2005 and has spent more than 15 years transforming CNBC into a leading, multi-platform international business news brand that is widely regarded as First in Business Worldwide. Hoffman has overseen the expansion of the network’s global footprint; established a profitable and growing digital business; and successfully developed and implemented a new primetime strategy. CNBC at night features a mix of reality programming, highly successful series produced exclusively for CNBC and a number of original in-house documentaries all consistent with the network’s distinct brand and all of which has dramatically increased CNBC’s measured ratings during primetime.

Prior to returning to CNBC, Hoffman served as President and General Manager of WVIT, NBC’s owned-and-operated station in Hartford, CT, beginning in August 2001. He came to WVIT from CNBC, where he was Vice President and Managing Editor, Business News and also served as acting President and Managing Director for CNBC Europe. Hoffman first joined CNBC in 1997, after an extremely successful local television station career at KDNL in St. Louis (VP and GM), KNBC in Los Angeles (VP, News), WBBM in Chicago (News Director) and WAGA in Atlanta (News Director) and also held management positions at ABC-owned WABC in New York and WLS in Chicago.

Hoffman holds a M.A. in Journalism from the University of Missouri and a B.A. in Sociology from the University of California, Berkeley. He is married and has three sons.
