SANKOFA Movie Screening and Panel Discussion
February 25, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm CST

The Moody College of Communication’s Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and the Warfield Center are proud to host a public screening of Haile Gerima’s ground-breaking film, SANKOFA. Experience the transformative film that follows Mona, a Black model on a photo shoot in Ghana who voyages back in time to a plantation in North America.
We are proud to partner with Ava Duvernay’s distribution company ARRAY to showcase the newly restored version of SANKOFA. After the screening, we’ll have a panel discussion with Dr. Daina Ramey Berry (Professor and Chair, UT Department of History), ailish elzy (Ph.D. Student, Moody College of Communication), and Hakeem Adewumi (Photographer and UT Austin alum).
This event is FREE and open to the public. Face masks are strongly encouraged.
