The Frank Deford Lecture in Sports Journalism – The Anti-Heroes: Sports in the COVID Era with Howard Bryant

Howard Bryant, author and ESPN Senior Writer, will deliver the 2022 Frank Deford Lecture in Sports Journalism in an address titled “The Anti-Heroes: Sports in the COVID Era”. Bryant is a Senior Writer for ESPN, sports correspondent for NPR’s Weekend Edition Saturday and the author of nine books, many of them about baseball. Rickey: The Life and Legend of an American Original (about Rickey Henderson) will be published in May.

The Center for Sports Communication & Media has been hosting the Frank Deford Lecture in Sports Journalism under the auspices on the McGarr Symposium on Sports and Society since 2010, when Deford spoke on the UT-Austin campus. Since then, the Deford Lecture has welcomed some of the most significant practitioners, including Washington Post columnist Sally Jenkins, legendary sports caster Bob Costas and Sports Illustrated photographer Neil Lifer.
